What personal data we collect and why we collect it

While you visit the Molecule Store, we’ll track:

  • Products you’ve viewed: we’ll use this to, for example, show you products you’ve recently viewed
  • Location, IP address, and browser type: we’ll use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping
  • Shipping address: we’ll ask you to enter this so we can, for instance, estimate shipping before you place an order, and send you the order!

If you create an account, we will store your name, address, email and phone number, which will be used to populate the checkout for future orders.

If you order anything we will also store what, when and where to you have ordered in your profile. We also save your IP address. For security reason and to know what you have ordered in the past.

We will also store comments or reviews if you choose to leave them. This is so we can show other people how you rated our awesome science swag.

During the checkout, you can express your consent to receive a review reminder about the product(s) you’ve purchased.

  • If you agree, an email will be scheduled and sent after a certain time after the order is completed.
  • If you deny, the email address provided by you during the checkout and, if registered to the site, your ID, will be logged into a dedicated table in the database to prevent you from receiving any reminders.

Comments / Reviews

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

We do not collect any analytics data but log data is collected from our servers. This data includes the IP address and the operating system of your device, the data access time, the type of browser, as well as the browser request, including the request’s origin (referrer). This ensures the security of your data on our systems and ensures that countermeasures are quickly taken in cases of suspicion to safeguard your data.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

We utilize YouTube Lyte to embed YouTube videos via youtube-nocookie.com, which eliminates the use of cookies. Who has access to your data

Members of our team have access to the information you provide us. For example, both Administrators and Shop Managers can access:

  • Order information like what was purchased, when it was purchased, and where it should be sent.
  • Customer information like your name, email address, phone number, IP address, and billing and shipping information.
  • The list of scheduled review reminder emails
  • The list of all email addresses that do not want to receive review reminders

Our team members and manufacturing partners have access to your order information to help fulfill orders, process refunds and support you.

Our hosting provider has access to our database tables. They are responsible for maintaining the server’s hardware, software, and database management system.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment/review, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. We also want other people to see your comments and reviews.

We will store your order and profile information indefinitely.

Log data, including IP addresses, is retained for a period of 6 months.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, made an order or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

All registered users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments and checkouts may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Sensitive user data, such as passwords, is hashed in our database tables.
